Ah, Chester zoo. The best zoo in the UK and 3rd in the world (apparently on Wikipedia). I’ve been there only once when we were still dating and decided to treat Mr. Monday for a day out!
We lately have been attending parenting classes and one thing we’ve learnt was that we keep Mr. Monday indoors too much. Back in my days (lol I sound like an old man), there were no such thing as too much indoor time. My parents rarely bring me out, and I wasn’t allowed to go to the playground alone. Thinking about it, maybe that’s why I’m not the sporty kind of person.
The animals really looked like they were well cared for and I believe that is the most important thing about zoos. The duck however, was following everybody at the cafe for some treats! I’m so glad to have managed to get a headshot of this cheeky drake. It was then I realised that it is the best time for me to practice my horrendous photography skills!!!
p/s: all the pictures in this post has not been edited and is taken by my Samsung note 10+). I think I did a pretty good job with the photos ⸂⸂⸜(രᴗര๑)⸝⸃⸃.
We actually did not manage to see all the animals or visit all the attractions they offer because the place is just unbelievably HUGE. Even the bird cage for the flamingoes and scarlet ibis were as big as the swamp at the back of my kampung with real sized ponds.
We got to watch the flamingo fight each other for a mate. It was hilarious. Reminds me of our mad chickens.
One of the animals Mr. Monday really wanted to see was giraffes. I’m not sure why he was so fixated on giraffes but that was all he wanted to see.
Papa giraffe isn’t in this picture but believe me he was the TALLEST giraffe I’ve ever seen! You can see the baby at the back walking with its mom!
Unfortunately there were just a big massive crowd at the giraffe feeding area so Mr. Monday couldn’t feed them. He was really disappointed, but then he manage to get up close to them in the barn when they (I don’t know why) all went in together. I was carrying Little Tuesday in a sling and wanted to continue practicing social distancing (excuse me for my defective immune system), so we waited outside.
Ah, penguins. Eunice’s favourite animal.
There were actually glass walls beneath where you can watch the penguins swim around. I didn’t manage to catch a good shot because there were so many kids just screaming and following them left and right (Mr. Monday included). I suppose because there were other children, he did spent quite a long time there.
Next up was my favourite semi-aquatic mammal: The OTTER!!!!
Unfortunately it’s called a giant otter and it is anything but cute!!! 。゚( ゚இ▽இ゚)゚。 I officially denounce otter as my favourite semi-aquatic mammal…. somebody please get the platypus back in line (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻!!!
Apparently they are taller than shorty Mr. Monday ಥ‿ಥ
I’m sure they have fur like the tiny otters (I’ve also learnt from my friend Dave that apparently sealions have fur?!?!?! WHAAA?? (☉_☉)). But they were swimming in their tank and they look like a massive snake (wow they are seriously flexible for their size) in water trying to eat me up. ERM, no thanks!
The cutest animal of the day goes to… RED RIVER HOG!
My favourite animal to watch was actually these red river hogs. A lady was throwing feeds for them and they basically scattering around with their tiny short legs and smelling the ground with their snout. AWHHHH. (♥ω♥*) I really wish I could attach a video of them here for you, but I was too busy taking photos and totally forgotten that my phone ACTUALLY HAVE A VIDEO FUNCTION?! WOWWWWWWW 2021 brah!
We ended the day by letting Mr. Monday roam in ONE OF THEIR (I stress this because we found out there were SO MANY PLAY AREAS in the zoo) playground / play area. He spent about 45 minutes there climbing the tree houses and playing the slide, while I rest my elderly spine by sitting at some random bench.
Besides these we actually did see the orang utan, failed to spot the cheetah in its man-made tropical forest (it was a huge enclosure!!! I joked that maybe there isn’t a cheetah afterall and the zoo is just making everybody find for it ha!)…. We saw a sloth too on the tree but it was so curled up I couldn’t make head or tail of it. The camel looked so smug I refused to take a picture of his arrogant face (๏ᆺ๏υ).
There were many animals that I didn’t even know they exists! Everytime we visit a zoo I truly feel as if my problems are so small.. Here, are 546563436 animals that I never even seen before, and I am just one single human in this world. The world is so big, there’s so much out there that… why do we even bother ruminating about our problems? Visiting the zoo always leave me feeling free and light.
p/s: I do highly recommend it, but get prepared to WALK! Probably not the best place to go with a dislocated pelvis. ༼ ༎ຶ ᆺ ༎ຶ༽
what a lovely family day out. The zoo is heaven on earth esp for the little ones. Thanks for the interesting update. 😍😍🥰🥰❤️❤️🌹🌹😘😘👍👍👏👏🙏
Yes! We all really enjoyed it! Chester Zoo is really one of the best zoo (the best I’ve seen) and would highly recommend them.
