To celebrate the appointment of Anwar as our 10th prime minister, I am going to blog! (Actually to celebrate the construction of my new computer too. My monitor just arrived today; I’ll blog all about this the next time!)
There is nothing sadder than Malaysian politics and those who see no fault in it. Barisan Nasional our right-winged party ruled for a booming 61 years before being defeated by the opposition party in 2018. I’d like to comment though, that in that 61 years, we can never be sure about whether they were any corruption by the organisation hosting the election event. Traditionally when the oppositional votes are being counted and leading, there will be a massive blackout in the area; and when the power supply comes back, votes for BN would suddenly spike up!!! Funny enough, it happened in so many states that everyone started being suspicious about it, especially during the rise of social media era. In 2018, citizens volunteer to guard the buildings used for vote counting to prevent any potential foul play in the counting of votes. And due to the fruit of the hardwork of the citizens of Malaysia, Barisan Nasional faced it’s first defeat, bringing down our 6th prime minister who has had multiple corruption allegations: Najib Razak.
Unfortunately, the opposition who rose in power; Pakatan Harapan, had made a horrible mistake of recruiting old BN members and other politicians who clearly had no loyalty for the party nor the government. In response to that, the new prime minister, who was ALSO our 4th prime minister (I know, the plot just thickens and it never give up), resigned in disappointment. He broke his promise to pass the seat to Anwar and left the seat unoccupied. THEN, people started jumping from one party to another and Muhyiddin decided to form a new party called Perikatan Nasional with most of the old BN members, with a majority seats to be the prime minister.
Sad to say, this new party, is new new but same old. What do you expect when it’s literally the same people who are in previously corrupt government, form a new party with a new name just to be governmemt again?
The whole thing is a massive joke. I don’t even know where to begin.
BUT IT SEEMS LIKE HOPE NEVER FAILS
Finally after the latest general election, Pakatan Harapan once again obtained the majority vote! However the twist is…. we don’t have enough seats to form a government. It took 3 days, nearly FOUR with a hung parliament; but the King of Malaysia finally decided to give in and elect Anwar.
What most important to remember is that Perikatan Nasional was very clever in merging with PAS (Malaysian Islamic Party) to reel in votes from citizens. Because majority of Malaysian population are Muslim, and they were mad at Barisan Nasional for the crime and husling they have done, they would definitely vote PAS! Pakatan Harapan consist of DAP (democratic action party – mainly consist of Chinese members), and thus they would not want to vote for PH. There was also a new law where if you were to jump from one party to another, then you will lose your seat no matter winning the election. (GREAT LAW; WHY DIDN’T ANYONE THINK OF THIS BEFORE>!?!??!>!)
As a Malaysian Chinese, no offense but I really do not believe that PAS is suited to be a government. I do believe that they suited to be the state government in states where the demographics are dominated by Muslims. However having a government made from an Islamic party is very un-Malaysian in my opinion. Malaysia, a beautiful country consist of multiculture and multiethnicities; it’s what I have always been proud of. I’m proud of how we live together in harmony despite our difference in culture, faith and looks. With the appointment of Anwar, I truly hope that there will be a future where all Malaysians will stop being used by politicians to fight among each other with the use of race card and religion cards.
great summary.. rejoice that DSAI is now our PM
